PORT Stephens’ Aquatic Centres will undergo essential maintenance works over the colder months to ensure the facilities are operating at optimum levels when crowds dive into the summer season.

Lakeside, Tilligerry and Tomaree Aquatic centres will be closed at various times during June, July and August 16 in a staggered schedule to ensure at least one facility is available to accommodate year-round pool users.

The outdoor pool at Lakeside is first in line and will be closed from Monday 27 June 16, until Sunday 24 July 16.

Ian Crawford, Council’s Contract and Services Coordinator, said while the works at all three centres are routine, people would notice the activity at Lakeside.

“The aquatic centres at Port Stephens are well-used and as with any asset, they require a little TLC to keep them at the standard our community expects,” he said.

“The scope of work generally involves replacement and re-grouting of tiles, cleaning the pool floor, painting, essential plant maintenance and general maintenance.

“This year we will be undertaking some work on the outdoor pool infrastructure at Lakeside. The process will require excavation, but there’s nothing people should be concerned about as these works are part of the regular maintenance schedule.

“The finished product will really help maximise the quality of water for pool users when the centre re-opens.”

Mr Crawford said Port Stephens Aquatic Centre members could visit alternative pools while their favourite centre was closed.

“We are mindful that people use the year-round aquatic facilities in Port Stephens for a range of reasons, so the team has taken great care with the scheduling of these essential works to try and minimise disruption,” he said.

“We thank the community in advance for their understanding and cooperation during this period.”
