To kick things off Verlie celebrated her Birthday with a High Tea at the Anchorage with two of her three brothers and her daughters.

Only a dozen of Verlie Napper’s 22 Great Grandchildren were able to join her in Celebrating her 90th Birthday last week.

Jill Stephenson of the Nelson Bay Ladies Probus Club told News Of The Area, “More than 100 of Verlie’s Family and Friends celebrated in the Hall at Port Stephens Uniting Church, including, including a long-lost Cousin from Junee.”

Many of Verlie’s family and friends live overseas and were unable to attend.

Verlie has lived in the Bay for 31 years after moving to the Bay from Canberra, she now resides at Harbourside Haven.

Verlie has a large extended family.

Verlie’s Brother, the Reverend Tony Winter and his wife, Annette, spent some time with the congregation of the Uniting Church while visiting for Verlie’s birthday.

They shared their adventures at the Soldiers Point and Port Stephens Uniting Church of their work with Frontier Services, where Tony served as Bush Chaplain at Port Hedland, or as Rev John Flynn of the Royal Flying Doctor Service used to say “Beyond the Last Fence”.

Reverend Tony and Annette still travel to many outback areas, sharing their stories and digging in to help, even if it means building fences, climbing ladders to paint or climbing scaffolding.

They have even been seen helping in the refurbishment of the John Flynn Memorial Church, in Alice Springs.
