EDUCATION Week is underway, with Myall Coast schools joining the weeklong celebration of public education.
This year’s theme, ‘I Learn, We Learn’, highlights the high expectations and personalised learning that underpins everyday classroom activities.
“We strive to ensure every student, every teacher, every leader and our school improves each year,” Tea Gardens Public School Principal, Mr Mark Clemson said.
“We have a culture of high expectations for our students and our teachers set high standards, which leads to high achievement.”
Mr Clemson said the implementation of STEM and Robotics programs at the school demonstrates the focus “on personalising student learning by teaching to the strengths and needs of each individual”.
Some of the many highlights of Tea Gardens Education Week program include public speaking grand finals, literacy workshops, award presentations, performances and classroom visits.
At Bulahdelah Central School (BCS), a K-12 Spelling Bee, Pi recital, numeracy based treasure hunts, performances and public speaking finals have been organised to celebrate the achievements of learning.
BCS Assistant Principal, Mr Rod Pye, said the Myall Coast students working together at the annual Tea Gardens Showcase Day this week will clearly demonstrate the ‘I Learn, We Learn’ theme.
“One of the benefits of being a Central School is that our secondary students can take their knowledge and experiences and use it to help primary,” Mr Pye said.
“We focus on K-12 rather than solely K-6 with the emphasis on education being a long process, and as we have the input of our secondary students in our programs, ‘we learn’ together.”
Mr Pye said being a small school, the “very personal approach” to each student’s learning is “certainly an asset that we can offer.”
The Education Week theme also celebrates the partnerships between schools and their local communities.
