Emergency services respond swiftly as massive blaze engulfs Nelson Bay residence

Fire crews from across Port Stephens and the Hunter responded to the blaze.

EMERGENCY services swiftly responded to a devastating structure fire that broke out at a two-storey property on Galoola Drive in Nelson Bay on Wednesday afternoon.

First on the scene, Salamander Bay’s fire crews wasted no time in launching efforts to extinguish the raging inferno, while additional teams from across Port Stephens and the Hunter region were dispatched to lend support.

Fortunately, it is believed the residence was unoccupied at the time of the incident, averting any potential injuries or casualties.
Authorities from both the Police and Fire Rescue NSW will be launching a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

Inspector Murphie from Fire Rescue NSW Lower Hunter Command provided insight into the incident.

“At approximately 2:35 pm, fire crews received multiple distress calls reporting a house engulfed in flames in Nelson Bay,” Mr Murphie said.

“Upon arrival, firefighters were met with a fiercely burning structure on both levels.

“They immediately initiated a defensive fire attack and swiftly requested reinforcements from Newcastle, Raymond Terrace, and the Rural Fire Service.

“Crews have committed to working through the night until the blaze is completely extinguished.”

The diligent and coordinated efforts of the emergency responders prevented the fire from spreading further and minimised the potential damage to nearby properties.

Local residents were advised to exercise caution and stay clear of the area while emergency operations were underway.
