Free ‘Work Pathways for Young People’ event to be held in Nambucca Heads

REGIONAL Development Australia Mid North Coast (RDAMNC), in conjunction with Bowraville, Macksville and Nambucca Heads High Schools, are hosting a free Youth Week employment event on April 27 at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club.

At the ‘Work Pathways for Young People’ event, parents and carers of students from years 9 to 12 who live in the Nambucca Valley will be able to meet a range of employment and education support services, local employers, and school staff who can provide information and insights about different approaches to career and job pathways.

A range of speakers will present on ‘preparing young people for work’, and the types of support and pathways on offer.

“Parents can have a lot of influence on their child’s career choices but can feel overwhelmed and under equipped to guide their young person into a good career,” said Kerry Grace, CEO of RDAMNC.

“High School Careers Advisors are equipped with great skills and knowledge but are under-resourced in terms of time available to connect with local employers.

“Employers are desperate for workers but are often unsure how to connect with young people and the supports available to them.”

“We want to bring these key youth employment stakeholders – parents, employers, careers advisors and support services – together into one room to help facilitate the knowledge sharing and connection that is so important to get our local young people into good jobs,” said Kerry.

‘Work Pathways for Young People’ will be held on 27 April at the Nambucca Heads RSL Club.

Doors will open at 5:00 pm for a 5:30 pm start, followed by a light supper after presentations.

Entry is free, please register at https://events.humanitix.com/youth-week-employment-event.

If you are an employer or a service provider and you would like to host a stand at the event, please contact Sara Runciman of RDAMNC at media@rdamnc.org.au or phone 0409 580 741.
