The scholarships are proudly supported by Port Stephens Council and funded by local businesses. This year, 13 businesses generously donated $32,000 collectively to help local students realise their potential.

Ampcontrol, Destination Port Stephens, Hunter Land, Hunter Readymixed Concrete, McDonald Jones Homes, Newcastle Airport, Raymond Terrace Bowling Club, Salamander Bay Recycling, Soldiers Point Bowling Club, SUEZ Resource Recovery Centre, The Wests Groups, Tomago Aluminium and Weathertex all contributed to the 2019 program.

Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer says the program highlights the capability and dedication of local students.

“Whether it’s a year’s worth of textbooks, a laptop, or help with accommodation, this contribution goes a long way to support local students and encourage life-long learning,” Mayor Palmer said.

“This year, our scholarships will help students studying everything from Mechatronics and Engineering to Pacific Studies and Music.

“The strength of the applications we received absolutely blew me away. Our young people in Port Stephens are committed not just to their own development, but are also interested in giving back to our community through their professional choices.

“It’s wonderful to see so many bright and determined Port Stephens students benefit from the generosity of our local businesses.

“By investing in these scholarships, our businesses make a big difference in the lives of young people setting out on the next stage of their academic journey.

“I want to thank all of our local businesses who have invested in the Mayoral Academic Scholarship Program — some for many years — for their generosity. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to support the aspirations of our young people in this way.”
