TUESDAY 15th August: A good turn up of bowlers for a game of social bowls and Round 1 of the Club Championship Triples to be played. Format for social bowls was Triples.

On Rink 6 Lynda Richards played “swinger ” lead.

This was a close match from start to finish the eventual winners were Sheril Johnson and Maynie Roberts 18 v Bev Stephens and Kayelene Pearson 16, of course Lynda was a winner as well. Dawn Jones, Kerry Faber and Jill McBride had a big win over Dawn May, Christine Fossey and Carol Hayden 20 v 7.

A similar story was unfolding on Rink 5 with Bette Saillard, Jo Younghusband and Olive McKeown having a score of zero on the 6th end. Their opponents Ingrid Luck, Dorothy Thompson and Caroline Bywater had amassed 14 points at this stage. Olive’s team regrouped only going down by 10 shots, 24 v 14.

The winners on the day, with the highest margin were Dawn Jones, Kerry Faber and Jill McBride.

Round 1 of the Triples Championship saw Bev Rhodes, Wendy Brand and Elizabeth Kelly defeating Margaret Smith, Lynne Green and Lorraine Harvey 17 v 14. Elizabeth’s team had a 5 shot lead on the 4th end, the score was equal on the 7th end. At the completion of the 12th end Elizabeth’s ladies had gained a good lead of 5 shots but Lorraine’s team fought back. The score on the 17th end 14 all.

Elizabeth’s team gained 3 shots on the 18th end, claiming victory 17 v 14. Karen Green, Robyn Webster and Kathie Rimmer proved to be too strong for Wilma Drake, Anne Mackenzie and Loretta Baker winning 23 v 11. The winners of these games progressed to Round 2.

Thursday 17th August: No social bowls played. Round 2 of the Triples Championship was played. On Rink 1 Ingrid Luck, Bette Saillard and Carol Hayden 8 v Robyn Beaumont, Maynie Roberts and Kayelene Pearson 30.

It was great to see Ingrid and Bette who are relatively new bowlers “having a go” in this competition and thanks to Carol for being their Skip.

A very close game on Rink 2 Francis Betar, Sheril Johnson and Julie Kennedy 18 v Sandra Leisemann,Lily Smith and Dale Winter 17. On Rink 3 it appeared that Bev Rhodes, Wendy Brand and Elizabeth Kelly had their game wrapped up by the 9th end. They had a 12 point lead over Karen Green, Robyn Webster and Kathie Rimmer.

This lead was narrowed to just 2 shots over the next 8 ends. At the end of play Kathie’s team losing 18 v 21.

A great come back ladies. Winners on Rink 4 were Kerry Faber, Dorothy Thompson and Lynda Richards 18 v Jill McBride, Wendy Jones and Olive McKeown 12.

The winners from these games progress to Round 3 to be played on Thursday 24th August.
